Devotions - Matthew 6:9-11

"Our Father in heaven .... your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. "

Prayer is not an escape from history,. We pray as those who are only too aware of depressions, oppression, and war's devastation -- as well as the possibilities for a more just and equitable society. We pray for the establishment of God's gracious rule.

Prayer is not only asking God for what we want; it is asking what God wants of us. Kneeling to present our requests is an acknowledgement of the Sovereign's right to command. Prayer is our admission that we were made for obedience, that duty its the core of blessedness. Running through the Psalms like a recurring melody is this theme: happy and blessed are those who love God's law and seek to do God's will.
