Devotions - Job 1:18-20

Job 1:18-20

"The messenger to Job reported, "Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house, and suddenly a great wind came across the desert, struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead;  I alone have escaped to tell you.” Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshipped."

This is a troubling part of the Bible:  devastating tragedy, loss of home, loved ones and livelihood. In seconds, lives are changed forever.   This week we see Job in every survivor of the earthquake and tsunami waves.  We might well ask why people turn to worship when confronted with such loss? Job's experience reassures us that, regardless of what happens in this world, God is. The world can trust God with its weeping, because we have seen God's own suffering and love for all in the person of Jesus Christ.
